Job Training / Incentives

 

The programs listed below are just a few of the many training programs available to new companies, growing businesses and those seeking employment options or continuing education opportunities in the Greater Wilkes-Barre Area.

   

Qualified companies may receive free job training for basic entry-level skills and advanced information technology skills for new employees and new and expanding businesses. 

 

  • Customized Job Training (CJT):

Pennsylvania's Customized Job Training Program (CJT) is responsive to employer needs by providing grant funds for specialized job training to existing or newly hired employees – designed specifically to fit your company's objectives. 

 

·          Workforce Investment Act of 1998:                                                                    

This federal program provides job training to eligible individuals for private and public sector employers.

 

  • On-the-Job Training:

On-the-job training helps defray the extraordinary cost of training new employees with little or no experience in the job they are being hired for or to upgrade an existing employee's skills to meet new job demands.  Your company may be reimbursed up to 50% of their wages during an initial training period.

 

  • Incumbent Worker Training:               

Training assistance given to individuals currently employed in either full-time or part-time positions that need additional skill training for job advancement. 

 

  • Job Creation Grant Program: 

The Job Creation Grant Program allows businesses in Northeast Pennsylvania to receive assistance when hiring workers with disabilities.  For more information, contact Dave Donlin, Executive Director at the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce at (570) 622-1942.
