Retail
leasing at Downtown Wilkes-Barre’s Northampton & Main
mixed-use project is off to a successful start, with two
new tenants signing leases for ground-floor space at the
property.
Local eatery Januzzi’s Pizza and the national Quiznos
Sub chain will both open their new locations at the South
Main Street complex by early summer. Lincoln Property Company
is Northampton & Main’s leasing agent, while NAI
Mertz of PA represented the Quiznos lessee, C&S Subs,
Inc.
Northampton & Main is a three-story, 145,000-square
foot mixed-use infill development anchored by the 14-screen
Wilkes-Barre Movies 14 multiplex cinema. Upper-story residential
lofts are also under development.
Among the compelling factors cited by Quiznos Subs and Januzzi’s
was the strong performance of Wilkes-Barre Movies 14, whose
operator – R/C Theatres – expects to easily surpass
a half-million guests in its first year of operation. Just
around the corner, Downtown’s new 18,000 square foot
Barnes & Noble academic superstore, open since October
2006, provides a second strong anchor for the center city
renaissance.
Larry Newman, the Chamber’s vice president for Economic
and Community Development, notes that, “theatergoers,
workers, shoppers, and residents are enjoying an ever-widening
array of choices when they come Downtown, and it’s
only going to continue, because we have many more exciting
announcements planned for 2007.”
Additional street retail opportunities are available at
Northampton & Main, ranging from 809 to 12,500 square
feet of storefront space. Many of the retail spaces are KOZ-designated,
enjoying tax benefits through 2010.
The third phase, consisting of 20+ upper-floor loft condominium
residences, is also underway. Chamber officials are in final
negotiations with two potential developers with a decision
expected by mid-June.
The Greater Wilkes-Barre Development Corporation, an affiliate
of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry,
serves as the developer for Northampton & Main.
