UPCOMING EVENTS

The Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, through the work of its Government Affairs Committee: Reviews legislation at the local, state and national levels and recommends position statements to the Chamber of Commerce Board on legislative and community issues.

  • Conducts the Annual Legislative Breakfast – an opportunity for members to ask questions of our State legislative delegation -- and forums on pertinent issues.
  • Encourages good government throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania by promoting, marketing, judging and presenting the Chamber’s annual Community Progress Award. This award is given out to divisions of local government for their cooperative efforts to improve the quality of life, the general welfare of their residents and/or institute programs that better utilize government resources on a regional or multi-community basis. Eligible local government entities include, but are not limited to municipalities, townships, boroughs, cities, school districts, authorities, county government and divisions of local government.

Recent positions the Chamber has taken include: Support for the Community Restoration and Revitalization Act, Support for balanced regulations for railroads and for the Freight Rail Capacity Expansion Act, Support for amending the existing merger or consolidation act and establishment of a boundary review commission, and support for the expansion of Historic Tax Credits.
